Radiation Therapist - Oncology - Lisle

Responsibilities
  • Takes steps and follows procedures to secure and safeguard patient and confidential information.
  • Assesses patient's condition, age, size and other medical conditions to best determine if treatment can be performed within the prescribed plan. Review radiation oncologist's prescribed dose prior to the administration of radiation; checks to ensure that prescribed doses are mathematically correct and when needed, consults with the radiation physicist and/or treatment plan to determine factors for treatment.
  • Assists and monitors patient during treatment; recognizes significant complications, notes, problems, complaints or occurrences; notifies physician as needed. Able to answer patient questions and provide emotional support as needed.
  • Operates specialized radiation therapy equipment; recognizes malfunctions and refers service as needed; selects technical factors per treatment plan.
  • May arrange patient transportation to and from the department to provide patient care.
  • Provides patient / significant other education and explanation of procedures being performed. Explains waiting times in excess of established protocol.
  • Assists radiation oncologist / physicist with brachytherapy procedures.
  • Maintains records of treatments and doses administered according to departmental policies and procedures. Performs chart checks as required; assists physicist with record keeping.
  • Will perform all other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an accredited course study in Radiation Oncology Technology. Preferred ARRT(T) registered or meets eligibility requirements for examination. Examination must be completed within six months of eligibility
  • Licensure by State of Illinois - IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety
  • Obtains continuing education credits as required
  • Maintains CPR certification
  • Prefer a minimum of one year of professional radiation therapist experience in a clinical or hospital setting

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $35.25-52.90, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
