Duties include, but are not limited to:
Night/Summer Custodian Job Responsibilities
- Empty trash in all classrooms, bathrooms, office, and lounge daily.
- Clean and disinfect all sinks, toilets, urinals, soap holders, paper towel holders, and toilet dividers daily.
- Clean toilets with toilet bowl cleaner daily.
- Clean all mirrors in restrooms with cleaner daily.
- Stock all necessary paper products.
- Stock all necessary hand soap.
- Dust/wipe off computers and monitors weekly.
- Wipe countertops in teacher workroom daily.
- Make sure the front entry/vestibule is neat and clean for the next morning - wipe down glass/vacuum or sweep.
- Art room floor needs thorough cleaning every other day. Mop or Sweep.
- Clean all drinking fountains with disinfectant spray daily. This includes the top, front, and sides of fountains.
- Vacuum all classrooms, offices, mats, etc.
- Dust mop hallways daily. During winter months clean floor daily when snow has been tracked in with the floor machine.
- Change gym mop monthly and change wet mop weekly.
- Lock every door and window (if necessary) in the building except the gym and bathrooms.
- Inform the head custodian if anything is broken, needs repaired, or if supplies need replenished.
After School and Evening Events
- Typically the day custodian will set up and the night custodian will tear down.
- Sweep and clean floors and empty garbage.
- Bleachers are to be swept and closed up - make note of any issues with bleachers.
- Chairs are to be stacked and put away in their storage area.
- Risers are to be broken down and put away in their storage area.
Additional Work - Time Permitting
- Scrub hallway floors
- Dusting in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and/or office.
- Extra cleaning as necessary in areas that tend to get overlooked.
- Clean all windows.
