NEEDED: Registered Nurse – Occupational Health
LOCATION: 2500 Investigation Parkway, Quantico, Virginia 22135
SCHEDULE: Work hours may vary from day to day in order to accommodate the schedules of DEA training activities, as early as 5:00 AM and as late as 7:00 PM.
- Facility: 5:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Clinic: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have completed RN training from a university, college, school, or nursing program that is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), National Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- Pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
- Have and maintain active, current, unrestricted RN License in the jurisdiction of delivery of care.
- Maintain certification in BLSHCP and ACLS provider.
- Ability to obtain a hearing conversation technician certification and/or spirometry certification (if needed)
- Have at least two (2) years of previous clinical RN experience.
- Have and maintain valid state driver’s license.
- Have intact near and far visual acuity and accommodation, and intact manual dexterity skills, to perform job tasks and complete documentation
- Work within the scope of practice and state standards of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the State/Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Obtain professional development and training to remain knowledgeable regarding current trends, information, and practices.
- Responsible for expenses of license maintenance (biennial CEUs) and required certifications (i.e., BLSHCP/ACLS, spirometry, etc.)
JOB DUTIES: Duties shall include but are not limited to:
- Provide evaluation and treatment of ill and injured employees.
- Administer and interpret Mantoux tuberculin skin tests, perform screening evaluations, ECGs, venipuncture, and vision exams.
- Perform audiology and pulmonary function spirometry testing.
- Manage and perform clinical, administrative, and program duties, within designated scope, as assigned by physician.
- Work closely with DEA COR and DEA Clinic Administrator to manage clinic staff participation in TR events, medical logistics, reporting, and referrals to DEA resources.
- Triage patients, treat illness and injuries, and refer cases to off-site providers as needed.
- Counsel employees regarding health and wellness issues, test results, arranging/scheduling physical exams and tests and assisting in performance of exams.
- Manage and maintain health promotion programs, short term counseling and referrals to outside health and EAP resources.
- Maintain medical, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other documentation in print and electronic format.
- May be required to drive specially equipped emergency vehicle or other government vehicle to respond to emergencies, perform Automated External Defibrillator (AED) checks, or perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to attend and provide medical support for scheduled high-risk activities of DEA students and staff (non-contract), such as physical training, testing, defensive tactics sessions, or challenging events. Some of these activities are conducted outdoors.
- Monitor MCBQ activity status (temperature determined) during outside activities occurring in hot or cold weather to anticipate weather-related trainee needs.
- Greet all patients who enter the clinic, discerning reason for the visit, triaging, if necessary, ensuring completion of routine paperwork for clinic visits, and retrieving a chart if it is available within the clinic or electronic database.
- Obtain patient vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and O2 saturation) for every encounter requiring an examination.
- Provide medical care for minor injuries or illnesses as per standing orders.
- Assist the Nurse Coordinator and Physician in providing any necessary patient care.
- Provide phlebotomy or establish intravenous fluid lines as needed.
- File all patient notes from a given day in charts by the end of that day.
- Dispense medications in accordance with standing orders.
- Maintain emergency and non-emergency equipment.
- Calibrate any equipment used in the clinic.
- Administer vaccines to DEA staff (non-contract), including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, meningococcus, tetanus, TDaP, influenza.
- Respond to and provide emergency medical treatment in accordance with DEA standing orders for emergencies which occur inside or outside of the clinic.
- Answer telephone calls to the Academy Health Services Clinic and respond to requests appropriately, determine whether immediate action is required, and make complete notes regarding call backs.
- Maintain infection control in the clinic: ensure that examination rooms are cleaned after each use, cabinets are closed and locked, unused supplies are put away, and no trash is left on cabinets, tables, or floors.
- Complete daily log of patient visits, within Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
- Ensure adequate stocking of forms and supplies.
Perform Phase I physical examinations:
- Schedule appointments for physical examination.
- Obtain charts for physicals from DEA Headquarters (if necessary).
- Prepare necessary paperwork and laboratory tubes and labels prior to the patient’s arrival.
- Perform tasks required for the Phase I exam: e.g. phlebotomy, urine sample collection, ECG, tuberculosis testing, vision testing, hearing testing, and pulmonary function tests when indicated.
- Organize all paperwork and test results in the patient chart.
- Provide organized chart to physician for review at least one day prior to the Phase II examination.
- Confirm availability of charts for incoming BATs.
Shall be physically able to:
- Walk moderate distances while carrying heavy packs of medical supplies.
- Assist with or transfer individuals of various weights/heights.
- Lift up to 30 pounds, required to move or transfer supplies and equipment, or to perform an ergonomic task.
- Bend, reach, stoop, squat, kneel, and grip to administer patient care and perform necessary employee tasks.
- Stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills, and be able to walk moderate Distances.
- Sit for extended periods during meetings or while entering data/documenting.
- Communicate effectively with personnel and supervisors.
- Tolerate work in hot, cold, and inclement weather, and be able to adapt to changing weather conditions.
- Tolerate loud noises such as bangs, pops, and other simulated law enforcement training activities.
