QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: Master's or Doctorate Degree in Nursing. Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/ mental health.
  1. License: Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Must have an unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Arkansas. Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license.
  1. Preferred Experience: One to two years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders.
  1. Skills: The PMHNP must possess effective communication skills and must demonstrate leadership ability and interest in professional growth. Must be readily adaptable to changing physician/practice demands, without deterioration under stress; and must have a basic concept of customer service, scheduling, and counseling. The PMHNP must possess demonstrated knowledge, training and skills necessary and appropriate to the patient-specific population. PMHNP must be able to set priorities and effectively delegate/coordinate interdisciplinary care based on the needs of the patient and clinic.
  1. Working Relationships: Ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals involved in all aspects of treatment including, but not limited to: patients, family members, case workers, referral sources, and all Unity Health associates. Must be willing to display courtesy, tact, consideration, respect and discretion in the interactions with others. Also, must possess the ability to make independent decisions and function with minimal supervision.
  1. Performance & Competency: Must successfully demonstrate competency in field and work environment on a continuous basis-including age-specific competencies, clinical competencies and organization-wide competencies such as fire, infection control, emergencies, etc.). Performance will be measured and routinely evaluated with clinical administrative staff as required.
  1. Safety Sensitive: YES In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as "safety sensitive." A "safety sensitive" position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. Any associate that is actively engaged in the use of medical marijuana, even if in possession of a valid medical marijuana card, will be excluded from employment in a "safety sensitive" position.
  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Maintains good physical and emotional wellbeing. Job responsibilities require some amount of physical capabilities including, but not limited to: a significant amount of writing and computer entry, ambulate throughout the clinic, occasional assistance with pushing wheelchairs or escorting patients, lifting or pushing of up to 50 lbs. The individual will be required to sit for extended periods of time. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. The position has minimal exposure to malodorous odors and minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in an outpatient setting during scheduled hours. Scope of services includes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of a behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the state's Nurse Practice Act.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
  • Counsel clients during appointments, as necessary.
  • Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions.
  • Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
  • Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client's conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.) as required.
  • Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary)
  • Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients.
  • Maintain medical records and submit at least 10% of records to the supervising Psychiatrist for biweekly review in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement.
  • Records all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations. Submits billing documents in a timely fashion.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Provides teaching and education to clinical staff, if requested.
  • Follow all procedures and protocols as per Unity Health policy, federal and state regulations, standard practice, and in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement.
