Job Summary:
Functions as a member of the Cardiopulmonary Rehab team andprovides quality care for patients assigned by the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director as referred by a licensed physician.

Job Duties:

1. Deliver quality patient care:
  • Monitor, supervise and plan care for each patient in coordination with registered nurse, as directed by physician, when applicable.
  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care, including marketing, consults, admissions, insurance approvals, daily sessions, etc.
  • Assure patient comfort and safety by continuous ECG monitoring and direct patient observation during exercise session (when applicable), responding to patient requests and protecting patient's privacy.
  • Respond immediately to any change in patient condition, assess patient, notify appropriate nurse and treat as directed by registered nurses, when applicable.
  • Perform EP assessments, ECG monitoring, Accu-checks and vital signs according to Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab policy and procedure, document results appropriately, and notify registered nurse when appropriate.
  • Assures that one ECG trained member of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab team is at ECG monitors during exercise sessions.
  • Assists in all emergency procedures as directed by registered nurse, physician, ACLS or standing protocols.
  • Receive certification in CPR every two (2) years.
  • Passing score on Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab competency tests annually.
  • Passing score on Accu-checks and LDX (if available) tests annually.
  • Receive ACLS certification every two (2) years.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
2. Prepares unit for administration of treatment
  • Prepares Accu-checks, Cholestech, and Heart Monitor Systems for daily use.
  • Prepares telemetry units for patient use, including cleaning and minor maintenance, when needed.
  • Complete all appropriate daily equipment checks (including crash cart), prior to patient arrival
  • Responsible for patient session documentation.
  • Maintain unit supplies and order as necessary.
  • Enter daily charges appropriately and accurately.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
3. Interacts in an effective, therapeutic, willing, professional manner with patient, families and visitors.
  • Establish and enhance good personal and therapeutic rapport with patient and family members.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality concerning all aspects of patient care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve conflict constructively when dealing with patients, families, staff members, physicians and colleagues. Report conflicts requiring intervention on the same day of occurrence.
  • Make suggestions for improving patient care in a tactful and considerate manner.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
4. Contribute and assist in enhancing productivity and efficient operation of the Rehab department.
  • Actively participates in all staff meetings unless request permission to be excused from Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
  • Exhibit timely, satisfactory completion of patient care responsibilities by end of the work shift.
  • Demonstrate initiative by seeking additional tasks when time permits.
  • Attend departmental in-services when content is appropriate for job unless excused by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
  • Attend interdepartmental meetings unless excused by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
  • Participate and assist with performance improvement program.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, screen calls for referral, accurately record and communicate messages to appropriate Cardiopulmonary Rehab staff member.
  • Chart audits.
  • Attend mandatory in-services as required by hospital and state policies.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
5. Maintains professional knowledge and skills of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab therapy and adjunct program(s), and promote understanding of all fields
  • Accepts and performs other assigned duties with a positive attitude, as requested by Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Director.
  • Accept changes in work schedule without complaint.
  • Complete variance report according to policy and procedure, promptly and accurately.
  • Takes initiative for self-study/ self-education of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and supporting program principles.
  • Volunteers for at least two (2) Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Program advancement/community education projects each year.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.
6. Displays positive behavior, which promotes effective interpersonal relationships and enhances the hospital image.
  • Attend all required formal Guest Relations presentations.
  • Interact in an effective, willing, professional manner with patients, guests and other team members according to hospital policy.
  • Maintain nicotine free status to serve as patient example.
  • Adhere to hospital policy and guidelines as instructed.
  • Other duties as requested by Cardiopulmonary Rehab Director.

7. Must meet all employee health requirements for the evaluation year.

8. Demonstrates or provides proof of meeting all required/mandatory competencies.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or acceptable related field such as Kinesiology (minimum) Master's Degree in Exercise Science preferred.

Experience: Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab experience as an exercise physiologist preferred.

Certifications: ACSM CES or RCEP, ACLS, PALS, CPR, Accu-checks, Other ACSM certification

Skills: Good oral and written abilities necessary to communicate with patients and co-workers, a must. Ability to follow direction and self-motivation required.

  2. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.
