Primary Purpose:
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental counseling program for school district staff. Provides individual therapy services to assist individuals in achieving more effective social functioning. Formulates and implements treatment/intervention plans. Responsible for record keeping, reports, and case notes.
Prerequisites:
- Master's Degree;
- Licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate (preferred)
- Three years of counseling experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledgeable of various intellectual and developmental diagnosis
- Experience working with adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff.
- Conducts initial client assessments.
- Conducts psychosocial assessments.
- Develops treatment plans and provides individual therapy.
- May assist with difficult behavior and/or crisis situations within the program.
- Maintains up-to-date files on all staff.
- Provides direct support and training on mental health issues to staff
- Provides brief intervention and crisis intervention as needed
- Engages in community outreach and provides community presentations when needed
- Performs case management duties as necessary
- Participates in case staffing and administrative meetings
- Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and board policies. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards including current professional standards of competence and practice.
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
