Purpose: The Bus Driver provides clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure that students enjoy the full advantage of school district programs and activities. To accomplish these tasks the Substitute Bus Driver must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Responsible to: Transportation Director

Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education

Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid CDL license with required endorsements.
  3. Comply with required drivers license records review and meet district requirements of a satisfactory driving record.
  4. Meet all state requirements for Bus Drivers, including Defensive Driving and First Aid Certification.
  5. Successfully complete agility and reaction time test.
  6. Successfully complete the driver training program.
  7. Successfully complete required substance abuse testing program as prescribed by USD 253.
  8. Complete required physical examination for Bus Drivers.
  9. Desire to continue career improvement.
  10. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
  1. Act as substitute, activity or route driver as assigned. If driver is still in training they must be making adequate progress to completing qualifications for bus driver.
  2. Provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure that students enjoy the full advantage of school district programs and activities.
  3. Ensure that all activities conform to State school transportation guidelines.
  4. Communicate effectively using the two-way radio system.
  5. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  7. Operate all vehicles and equipment as necessary in a safe and efficient manner.
  8. Support the value of an education.
  9. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  5. Occasionally requires climbing and balancing.
  6. Requires driving skills, including ability to operate vehicle at night.
  7. Requires agility necessary to quickly and safely exit and enter driver's seat and emergency doors.
  8. Requires lengthy and overnight travel.
  9. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
General Responsibilities:
  1. Abide by all current Kansas school transportation regulations.
  2. Provide safe and orderly transportation to and from school related activities.
  3. Maintain assigned schedule.
  4. Transport authorized students only.
  5. Discharge students at authorized stops only.
  6. Maintain effective pupil behavior management over groups of children.
  7. Abide by all traffic laws.
  8. Inspect bus prior to each route or activity trip, and file inspection forms with the Transportation Director.
  9. Maintain bus in clean condition, and inform the Transportation Director whenever a bus is received in unsatisfactory condition.
  10. Immediately notify the Transportation Director of lateness or emergency mechanical failure.
  11. Inform maintenance staff of routine maintenance and repair required.
  12. Report all accidents and file required accident reports with the Transportation Director.
  13. Meet emergency situations in accordance with operating procedures.
  14. Wash, clean and fuel bus on an established schedule.
  15. Assist Mechanic with emergency repair as needed.
  16. Maintain current route information and maps.
  17. Complete and submit all reports at the end of each day or activity trip.
  18. Provide a list of persons on trip to comply with USD 253 Crisis Plan (activity trips only).
  19. 19. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  20. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  21. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
  22. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
  23. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual and racial harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  24. Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
  25. Respond to change in a productive manner.
  26. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  27. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Administrative Staff.


La tarifa base por hora es de $18.67. Se puede otorgar compensación adicional por experiencia laboral y educación relacionada con el trabajo/puesto que solicita.

  4. Cumpla con todos los requisitos estatales para conductores de autobuses, incluida la certificación de conducción defensiva y primeros auxilios.

  6. Completar con éxito el programa de formación de conductores.
  7. Completar con éxito el programa de pruebas de abuso de sustancias requerido según lo prescrito por USD 253.

Funciones Esenciales:

  2. Proporcionar transporte limpio, seguro y confiable para garantizar que los estudiantes disfruten al máximo de los programas y actividades del distrito escolar.
  3. Asegurarse de que todas las actividades cumplan con las pautas estatales de transporte escolar.
  4. Comunicarse de manera efectiva utilizando el sistema de radio bidireccional.
  5. Comunicarse de manera efectiva con todos los miembros del distrito escolar y la comunidad.

Requisitos Físicos/Condiciones Ambientales:
  1. Requiere permanecer sentado o de pie durante mucho tiempo.
  2. Ocasionalmente requiere esfuerzo físico para mover, levantar, transportar, tirar o empujar manualmente objetos o materiales pesados.
  3. Ocasionalmente requiere agacharse, doblarse y estirarse.
  4. Debe trabajar en ambientes ruidosos y concurridos.
  5. Ocasionalmente requiere trepar y mantener el equilibrio.
  6. Requiere habilidades de conducción, incluida la capacidad de operar el vehículo de noche.
  7. Requiere la agilidad necesaria para salir y entrar de forma rápida y segura por el asiento del conductor y por las puertas de emergencia.
  8. Requiere viajes largos y nocturnos.
  9. Debe funcionar en interiores y exteriores durante todo el año.


Responsabilidades Generales:
  1. Cumplir con todas las regulaciones vigentes de transporte escolar de Kansas.
  2. Proporcionar transporte seguro y ordenado hacia y desde las actividades relacionadas con la escuela.
  3. Mantener el horario asignado.
  4. Transporte únicamente a estudiantes autorizados.
  5. Bajar a los estudiantes únicamente en las paradas autorizadas.
  6. Mantener una gestión eficaz del comportamiento de los alumnos en grupos de niños.
  7. Cumplir con todas las leyes de tránsito.
  8. Inspeccionar el autobús antes de cada viaje de ruta o actividad y presentar formularios de inspección al Director de Transporte.
  9. Mantener el autobús en condiciones limpias e informar al Director de Transporte cada vez que se reciba un autobús en condiciones insatisfactorias.
  10. Notificar inmediatamente al Director de Transporte en caso de retraso o falla mecánica de emergencia.
  11. Informar al personal de mantenimiento sobre el mantenimiento de rutina y las reparaciones necesarias.
  12. Informar todos los accidentes y presentar los informes de accidentes requeridos al Director de Transporte.
  13. Atender situaciones de emergencia de acuerdo con los procedimientos operativos.
  14. Lavar, limpiar y repostar el autobús en un horario establecido.
  15. Ayudar al mecánico con reparaciones de emergencia según sea necesario.
  16. Mantener información de ruta y mapas actualizados.
  17. Complete y envíe todos los informes al final de cada día o viaje de actividad
  18. Proporcionar una lista de personas en viaje para cumplir con el Plan de Crisis de USD 253 (solo viajes de actividades).
  19. Respetar la confidencialidad de los registros y la información sobre estudiantes, padres y maestros de acuerdo con la ética profesional aceptada y las leyes estatales y federales.
  20. Esforzarse por mantener y mejorar la competencia profesional.
  21. Mantenerse al día sobre las nuevas tecnologías, gestión de datos y comunicación.
  22. Cumplir con los requisitos legales y reglamentarios establecidos por las leyes estatales y federales.
  23. Defender y hacer cumplir la politica de la Junta, los procedimientos administratrivos y las reglas/regulaciones escolares que incluyen, entre otros:
    • uso aceptable de la tecnologia
    • acoso sexual y racial
    • denuncia de abuso infantilsalud y seguridad
    • incluidas todas las precauciones relacionadas con patogenos transmitidfos por la sangre y prevencion del suicidio.
  24. Mantener espacios de instrucción seguros y bien organizados.
