JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Material Flow Engineer to join our growing team.

Summary:
Reporting directly to the Sr. Supply Chain Manager, the Material Flow Engineer designs and improves the movement of raw material, finished goods, and services across the value chain. Areas to be addressed include the following: Materials Management, Operations, Purchasing, Sourcing, and Logistics. We are looking for a process-focused, systems-thinker with a wide lens to produce solutions that optimize material movement, inventory levels, and production output.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Material Flow Engineer will lead/coordinate projects and process improvements within the Supply Chain areas of Materials Management, Procurement, and Logistics for affiliated facilities. As a team leader and/or individual contributor, the expectation is that you will use proven leadership and change management skills to drive improvements in business performance related to inventory investment, on-time delivery performance (OTIF), domestic/international freight expense, resource/capacity utilization and customer service initiatives for the Supply Chain team. Business process performance improvements will be primarily driven through working relationships with cross-functional leaders and peers.

  • Drive the development, implementation, and advancement of the JELD-WEN Plan For Every Part process (EMF) across the entire NA manufacturing campus for both Windows and Doors business units.
  • Collects and manages the input of key system parameters (PFEP data) for assigned facilities and generates routine reports to detect and correct anomalies.
  • Establishes and maintains the MFCR (Material Flow Change Request Process) for their assigned sites. Conducts regular meetings and ensures that parameters are updated accordingly.
  • Calculates and tracks strategic initiative related costs and benefits, as well as analyzes and reports pertinent KPI's.
  • Conduct materials management maturity assessments at assigned sites to identify opportunities for improvement, and drive facility action that will improve key metrics such as material handling efficiency, indirect labor reduction, and material footprint reduction.
  • Analyze existing material flow systems and execute advancements in the elimination of fork trucks in production areas, kitting, returnable packaging, conveyance, storage density, ergonomic material presentation, and automation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, EH&S (environmental health and safety), and other departments to optimize layout and configuration of production and storage facilities to optimize employee safety, material handling, process flow, space utilization, and labor.
  • Expand the fork-free initiative, by providing PIT (powered industrial truck) and pedestrian traffic analyses and recommend solutions to mitigate the risk of injury.
  • Support assigned facilities with PIT fleet management and budget planning of equipment and resources.
  • Support the development of transportation and warehousing modeling and optimization processes.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in material handling technology to incorporate into the design and implementation process.
Leadership and Influence
  • Utilize analytical skills to present recommendations on how to achieve cost-saving objectives.
  • Create training material and document procedures to comply with new/existing business processes.
  • Support development of Division-wide processes that ensure productive planning efforts in business segments and functional units consistent with business unit requirements and strategies.
  • Takes responsibility for continuous development and performance; provides and asks for performance feedback. Develops and energizes people through sharing ideas, coaching, mentoring, or supervising. Communicates the JELD-WEN vision, values, principles, and business goals.
  • Inspire action without relying solely on authority.
  • Proactively establish and cultivate a broad network of contacts both within and outside the Supply Chain function for the purpose of collaborative information collection and dissemination.
  • Develops effective working relationships with others. Willingly contributes ideas within and across work groups, and teams with others to complete varied work assignments. Leverages own expertise by sharing lessons learned, documenting processes, conducting team de-briefings, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3-5 years' of demonstrated experience in Materials Management, Operations, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Prefer degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Advanced knowledge Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Ability to read site layouts.
  • Proven leader implementing and sustaining change.
  • Hands-on Project Management experience.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree, MBA, or other related advanced degree.
  • Modeling / Optimization Skills.
  • Capable of designing in AutoCAD or related design software.
  • Experience in discreet, job shop and/or flow manufacturing environment.
  • APICS Certification CPIM/CIRM
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with databases, query/reporting tools preferred.
  • SAP Experience Preferred.
