Primary Purpose:

The College & Career Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that every student in high school and their family receives proactive and effective support to transition after high school. In alignment with district leadership, they will assist in developing and implementing an aligned K-12 college and career preparation program that reaches each student and supports equity in outcomes. Through this work, they will work with various stakeholders, including students, families, LCS staff, college partners, career partners, and more, to cultivate and support the necessary conditions for student success beyond high school.
Qualifications:

Education/Licensure

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, Youth Development, Psychology or related field

Master's in related discipline (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of policies and practices of K12 schools
  • Proficiency with data systems and other relevant pieces of technology
  • Willingness to handle a complex and detail-oriented workload
  • Team-oriented towards program design, implementation, and evaluation
  • High energy, creativity, ability to assume responsibility; take initiative and develop new programs
Ability to:
  • Plan, supervise, assess and evaluate career education programs.
  • Maintain cooperative relations with school staff, students, parents, and the business
  • community.
  • Recruit, encourage, and promote business partnerships.
  • Assess and evaluate school needs and develop programs to meet these needs.
  • Meet established deadlines as defined by the supervisor.
  • Make student contact during school hours the priority.
  • Work effectively with high-school-age students in all settings.
  • Maintain accurate program records.
Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience with high school, college, and/or career exploration or advising
  • Proven ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated program development, management, and evaluation experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Development
  • Develop, coordinate, manage, and promote district-wide college and career events and experiences
  • Coordinate and maintain family and community communication regarding college, career, and career tech programming and opportunities
Data Monitoring, Progress, and Evaluation
  • Develop and maintain system framework for College and Career programming, milestones, and coursework for Grades 9 - 12
  • Coordinate data collection relevant to student experiences Grades 9 - 12 and post-high school
  • Develop and implement interventions for off-track students and uncommitted Seniors in alignment with school-based staff
School-Based Capacity
  • Develop marketing materials, brochures, presentations, and forms for various programs including business and education partnerships
  • Develop and lead professional development opportunities for LCS school-based staff
  • Collaborate with students, teachers, counselors, educational institutions, community agencies, and businesses to develop college and career opportunities
Partnership Development and Management
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with business and community members; solicit and recruit participation of new partners, including alumni and diverse groups.
  • Develop relationships and partner programs with colleges
  • Represent Lauderdale County Schools as an active participant on local, regional, and state education and business committees

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent
