CT Technologist

Illinois CancerCare is seeking a Full-time CT Technologist to work in our Imaging department. The CT Technologist is responsible for performing routine and specialized radiological procedures and administrative work for patients. The Technologist works closely with their peers and the CT/X-Ray lead to ensure all aspects of CT are maintained in accordance with regulatory organizations.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties
- Prepares for and performs radiological procedures according to Imaging polices. Takes CT scans following established procedures for patient care and safety.
- Communicates effectively with outside Radiologists for protocoling exams when needed.
- Ensures CT equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to service repair technicians and CT Compliance Technologist.
- Prioritizes work in order of importance.
- Logs radiological procedures completed. Processes routine paperwork and completes routine computer applications. Takes reports over the phone when necessary.
- Maintains & completes tasks on Imaging PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System).
- Maintains examination room. Stocks and cleans necessary radiological supplies.
- Attends required staff and educational meetings.
- Reports to work area on time and remains available throughout the workday.
- Works additional hours and locations when requested.
- Works with other technologists to maintain coverage for all scheduled work times.
- Ability to work independently and with other technologists.
- Performs clinical related work as required or directed.
- Inserts IV catheter on required patients for their exam. This may include phlebotomy.
- Maintains CE and all compliance for the CT Accreditation Organization.
- Travels to outside clinics when needed.
- Maintains QA testing on CT machine(s).
- Maintains QA and testing on I-Stat when needed.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of supply inventory and when contrast & CT supplies are needed.
- Communicates to outside facilities in a courteous, helpful manner.
- Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding materials.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Observes OSHA and facility policies and guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as requested or required.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Require manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment.
- May have to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- May have to help lift patients weighing up to 300 pounds and place them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment.
- Require eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films.
- Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.
- Require ability to endure frequent and extended periods of standing and walking.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
The technologist may be exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionized radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment and is expected to be familiar with the dangers and proper handling of such. Safety policies and good health practices are to be understood and observed.
Qualifications- Have completed a course, minimum two years, in a Radiologic Program approved by the American Registry of Radiation Technology.
- Possess current CPR Certification
- Two years minimum experience in Computed Tomography.
TRAINING AND LICENSURE REQUIRED
- Employee must be licensed by IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Division of Nuclear Safety).
