BASIC JOB SUMMARY:

The overall purpose of this position is to assist the Operations team in evaluating, designing, testing, configuring, installing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting TEC's multi-state production network. This position requires skilled knowledge and experience of advanced routing protocols as well as thoroughly understanding business operations to assist customers with technical solutions. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Self-motivation and the ability to respond with innovation to new technological problems and new possibilities is expected.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by the company.
  • Responsible for the configuration design, provisioning, and maintenance of Cisco Internet Protocol (IP) based devices, networks, and internet services
  • Lead in the administration of security technologies such as firewalling, multi-layer VPN technologies, IPS, ACLs, and best practices adhering to regulations (HIPPS, SOX, PCI, CALEA etc.)
  • Provide remote and onsite training for Broadband, IP and communication services to client companies and end user customers
  • Mange and perform network systems software upgrades, including planning and scheduling, testing and coordination
  • Maintain and support systems in a 24x7, large, distributed and mission-critical environment, including in-house, remote, and commercial colocation/data center(s)
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Any other duties that may be assigned


Requirements

Knowledge - Bachelor's Degree (BS) from a four (4) year college or university in Computer Science or related field is required along with four (4) years' related experience and/or training in a service provider environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of four (4) years' work history in a Cisco Network Engineer role within an enterprise and/or service provider environment is strongly preferred. Should have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. CCNA/CCNP or equivalent is required. Requires a valid driver's license for on-the-job travel.

Mental - Requires a normal degree of concentration and attention to specific details.

Physical - Requires walking/standing approximately 25%, sitting approximately 75% of time and lifting computer paper, and files weighing up to 20 lbs. approximately 2% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching to retrieve office supplies approximately 2% of time; involves occasional on-the-job travel, which requires a valid driver's license, as well as adequate insurance coverage.

Environmental - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances.

Manual Dexterity - Requires use of hands and arms to use a personal computer, calculator, other general office equipment, and equipment related to telephone features.

Audible - Requires ability to communicate including personal conversations and telephone conversations.

Visual - Requires ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, work instructions, accounting records, computer screens, proposals, contracts, service orders, reports etc. and to operate office equipment.

Color Perception - Color perception is probably helpful in this position but would not necessarily be required.
