Principal Maintenance Electrician - DeSoto Overhaul

This role is based in DeSoto, Texas and the incumbent will provide maintenance support operating in a dynamic manufacturing environment supporting multiple buildings, 24/7 operations, multiple mechanical and electrical disciplines, and complex equipment. The maintenance technician is responsible for performing highly diversified facility and production equipment maintenance. You will collaborate with engineers, support operations, and drive process improvement initiatives.

This position is accountable for performing and documenting maintenance activities in relation to the regular inspection, repair, and preventative maintenance of various types of standard and specialized machinery and equipment, physical building grounds, parking lots and walkways, and building structures to include roofs, interior and exterior walls. Supporting the facility includes skills in electrical, HVAC, telecommunications, fire and security. Also, supports all safety and lean initiatives within the department and facility.

Tasks to include the installation, relocation, alteration, and modification of existing facility and test cell systems, equipment, and operational capabilities. Schedules and coordinates work of outside contractors and vendors to ensure adherence to specifications, building codes, and project completion schedules. Able to establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with others in accomplishing tasks and projects. Complete assigned work orders as scheduled and accurately document activities. Responds to emergency safety or operational concerns. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Job Description:

This position supports all aspects of Maintenance and Facilities with the priorities and agenda set forth by Facilities Leadership.

Interacts with different levels of inter-organizational personnel, vendors, and consultants. Strong customer interaction skills, ability to identify and solve problems independently and computer literacy are critical for success. Working in a team environment is critical and providing direction to others with different cultural and technical backgrounds is necessary for success.

This position directly reports to the Facility Operations and Planning Manager.

The position is located in DeSoto and is not a remote position.

Relocation assistance is not available.

Primary Challenges and Responsibilities:
  • Use hand and power tools as well as other equipment to perform electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and other repairs and maintenance.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of complex electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment.
  • Perform regular preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on facility and production equipment and systems.
  • Adheres to established industry and enterprise standards, policies and practices relating to safety, quality, schedule, cost, accounting, purchasing and regulatory compliance in performing assigned duties.
  • Participate in the implementation of Continuous Improvements (CI) projects, space planning projects and capital projects.
  • Willing to train less experienced technicians.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
  • Conducts and completes on-the-job training and technical self-study programs for career development.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Strong industrial electrical experience in general maintenance or facility maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance lift equipment, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
  • Respond to service requests with little or no supervision and direction without interrupting operations.
  • Understanding of lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of PLC logic principles and operations.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills encompassing mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of electricity and electrical systems (AC/DC systems, relays, switches, fuses, breakers, motors)
  • Team player with passion for customer service, problem solving, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by documenting and correcting potential safety issues and complying with all safety regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding and expertise in specific fields of facilities and maintenance such as electrical, construction, HVAC (heating, ventilation, & air conditioning), and/or maintenance of building infrastructures.
  • Journey Electrician license.
  • Must be able to read PLC ladder logic and be able to transfer data from PLCs to laptops and back
  • Proficient in safely handling voltages ranging from 4 - 20 milliamps up to 600 volts AC, along with expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing electric motors and components.
  • Familiarity with modern construction, building codes and practices.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment according to local and national electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and building drawings and schematics.
  • Identify, specify, source and order supplies and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) systems.
