Job Title:
Educator-RN II Dialysis - Dialysis-Administration

Job Summary:
The dialysis educator is responsible for the immediate and ongoing education of staff in all modalities of dialysis to include adult and pediatrics. The educator ensures patients and families are appropriately educated on options and safety in the dialysis setting. The educator assists leadership with the updating and maintenance of employee training.

Education & Experience

5 years' experience in a Dialysis setting. BSN preferred; required within 5 years of hire.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Valid RN License

Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) or Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) required within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to prepare and teach educational material to new and existing employees. Manages the training program for all modalities of dialysis.
  • Educator is responsible for the education of all dialysis staff. Accountable for ensuring all training is up to date and.in compliance with MSDH/CMS requirements
  • Education of patients and families to dialysis and how to manage a chronic
  • Responsible for following MSDH regulations with maintaining a state approved initial training program for those staff members without previous dialysis experience •
  • Training of patients and staff during disaster events and infection prevention
  • The educator assists the manager in observing staff to ensure all policies are maintained
  • Follows staff member through training and state required testing for national certifications
  • Collaborates with managers for performance evaluations
  • Participates in the interviewing process for new staff
  • Works with UMMC to arrange and monitor student nurses and observation days
  • Collaborates with local colleges to help recruit nurses for dialysis
  • Assists with the data gathering process for Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement monthly

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
