Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Surgeon to join our medical team on a PRN (pro re nata) basis. This role requires a skilled professional who is capable of providing comprehensive surgical care, including pre-operative consultations, performing surgeries, and delivering post-operative follow-up care. The position also entails on-call responsibilities to ensure our patients receive timely and effective care, even during holidays and weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Consultation: Conduct thorough clinical evaluations and provide expert consultations in support of scheduled surgical cases.
Operative Services: Perform a variety of general surgical procedures, averaging 4-6 cases per week, while adhering to established medical standards.
Post-Operative Care: Conduct daily post-operative rounds on surgical wards, provide outpatient clinical follow-ups, and address any complications promptly.
On-Call Services: Be available for on-call duties as scheduled, including responding to emergency surgical consultations and procedures.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate medical records, ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, recovery processes, and provide emotional support throughout the surgical experience.
Qualifications:
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
Board certification in General Surgery.
Valid medical license to practice.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in general surgery.
Proficiency in advanced surgical techniques and technology.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience working with Veterans Affairs (VA) patients.
Knowledge of the VA electronic medical records system (CPRS).
