Santa Barbara Unified School District is currently in need of Playground Supervisors to serve our elementary students during recess and lunch/snack time.

Classified Job Description

Title: Playground Supervisor

Salary Schedule Range: 16

Pay Range: $18.65 to $20.03 per hour (based on experience)

Purpose of Position: To provide safe and constant recess or lunchroom supervision of students.

Reporting: Reports to a school site administrator, typically a Principal.

Employment Status: Part-time, 1-5 hours per day (FLSA Non-exempt).

Location: Roosevelt Elementary

Essential Functions:

-Provide supervision of students on the playground, during lunch or snack times, and at school events.

-Be aware of and implement school rules, policies and safety standards.

-Report any unsafe conditions, indoors or outdoors, to the school principal or designee.

-Alert the appropriate teacher to any problem or special situation about individual students.

-Resolve disputes or disagreements between students using techniques and protocols that are in alignment with school site or District policies, such as Restorative Approaches.

-Maintain consistent attendance.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
-Outdoor and indoor work environments, some exposure to weather conditions, wind, sun or rain. Hearing and speaking in order to receive and provide directions; seeing to read documents or notices; bending, crouching and kneeling to assist students; standing and walking and reaching; ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of the activities and interests of children of diverse backgrounds.

-Knowledge of positive reinforcement skills.

-Ability to establish and maintain appropriate, friendly and cooperative working relationships with all persons contacted in the course of work.

-Ability to serve as an effective role model for students.

-Ability to perform physical activities which may include frequent standing, walking, bending, or reaching.

-Ability to direct and respond appropriately to students.

-Ability to occasionally support students with medical or health needs.

Education, Training and Experience:
-Any combination of education and experience that meet the requirements of the position.

Additional Requirements:
-Must complete Live Scan fingerprint check; current TB test and any other required vaccinations.
