Operating Room Nurse Clinician I

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
GN/RN with current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas. Completion of an accredited basic nursing education program. Current BLS required.
JOB SUMMARY:
Novice Clinician – entry level professional nurse, who is precepted, guided and mentored. Possesses a basic general knowledge base and is focused on developing knowledge and skills with guidance and direction, meets standards for professional practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Requires assistance, direction and/or supervision in the provision of patient care. With guidance and direction, provides safe, basic intraoperative patient care. Actively acquire knowledge and skills specific to patients undergoing a surgical procedure. Practice strong patient advocacy role and diligence in the preoperative review of documents and verification of surgical procedure, site and other critical safety checks prior to surgery. Safely circulate in emergent and urgent surgical cases and collaborate with physicians and other members of the surgical team during surgical time outs and debriefing procedures. Enforces aseptic and sterile techniques to all aspects of patient care. Practice may vary widely as the novice clinician transitions from new graduate requiring much assistance and direction to competent, independent clinician. Provides patient care through nursing practices based upon the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice and Professional Performance and Association of Perioperative Nurses' (AORN) Standards. Values specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals.
