R&D Senior Engineer

The Role

The R&D team sustaining team requires an experienced Senior Engineer to support the life cycle of our Enteral Feeding medical devices. This candidate must possess strong technical leadership skills, with deep understanding and working experience in design controls, PDP, requirements writing and management, and identifying customer unmet needs. This candidate is expected to strategize, formalize, and lead the execution of technical plans for design changes and product improvements. The candidate will establish and maintain a relationship with our manufacturing sites and support plant personnel in the implementations of new or upgraded manufacturing processes, as well as assisting in technical aspects of new product commercialization. Job Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with business and cross-functional partners to execute individual projects both organic and inorganic while balancing technical complexity, regulatory pathway, customer needs and feedback with project timelines.
  • Develop protocols, test methods, and verification and validation strategies for all relevant design changes
  • Present technical and project updates to senior leadership in a clear and effective manner.
  • Work in a highly collaborative environment with cross-functional teams and NPD engineering counterparts.
  • Balance technical complexity, standards and regulations, stakeholder needs and project timelines.
  • Provide technical support to customers regarding product requirements and therapy methods.
  • Troubleshoot and improve production processes, investigate and implement alternate processes to improve yield, reduce scrap, etc. Provide technical expertise and leadership in the planning and implementation of projects to improve and/or revalidate existing manufacturing processes.
  • Mentor co-ops, contractors, and junior engineers.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% at times.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience or Master's degree preferred with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience of taking concepts from prototype to product launch
  • Experience in medical device validation and verification testing, design and execution.
  • Experience in writing and managing technical requirements and specifications and translating requirements to verification and validation strategies
  • Working knowledge of design controls (FDA 21 CFR 820.30) and medical device quality management systems (ISO 13485)
  • Statistical methodologies (regressions, ANOVA, sample sizing, DOEs)
  • Experience working with internal and external manufacturers both in design phase as well as design transfer and process qualification phases
  • Experience with Biodesign process preferred
  • Experience in material science preferred
