JOB SUMMARY

A Cytotechnologist, or Cytologist, performs various tasks related to medical testing in clinical laboratories. Their duties include preparing slides of human cells, examining slides with a microscope and reporting diagnoses.

We are currently looking for Cytotechnologists/Cytologists for 13-week hospital contracts in Harvey, IL. Pay rate is $48.00/hr.

EDUCATION

Completion of cytotechnology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Cytotechnologists/Cytologist must be board certified by the ASCP.  

LICENSURE

Cytotechnologists/Cytologist must be board certified by the ASCP.  

EXPERIENCE

At least one year of experience

CREDENTIALS

  • Background screening as required by contract.
  • OIG, SAM, OFAC and NSO screening.
  • Hepatitis B Statement or Declination [OSHA 29 CFR, 1910.1030(f)(2)].
  • Tuberculosis test (Mantoux TB skin test or blood test) documentation showing a negative TB test result within the preceding 12 months. An applicant with a previous positive TB test result must provide current documentation of a negative chest x-ray performed within the last 5 years and a TB Screening questionnaire completed by a medical provider within the last 12 months.
  • Drug screening panel required by contract. 6. Some clients will require COVID Vaccination/exemption documentation.
  • Covid 19 and current Flu vaccination. 

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  •  Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
  • The physical demands are representative of those that may be required by an employee to successfully perform the representative duties and responsibilities of the job. Applicant should be able to read medical equipment and documents. Pushing carts and medical equipment may be a component of the job.
  • Spatial ability is required to perceive three-dimensional and geometric relationships when cutting paraffin blocks and making embedding molds. Finger dexterity is required to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides. Color discrimination required to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
  • Additional demands of the work may include the following items: a. Lift at least 30 pounds; b. walk up and down the stairs and hallways; and c. sit for prolonged periods

REPRESENTATIVE DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with ATC Healthcare Services policies and procedures.
  • Determines appropriate handling and tissue processing for specimens, and priorities on requested procedures.
  • Assisting with the collection of needle aspiration samples. 4. Preparing slides by staining samples.
  • Using microscopes to examine cellular samples. 6. Evaluating samples while following laboratory protocols.
  • Calibrating, troubleshooting, checking and maintaining microscopes and other laboratory equipment.
  • Entering diagnostic information into computer systems. 9. Performs all procedures in a timely manner.
  • Answer laboratory phone properly and take information correctly.
  • Assists in the ordering of laboratory supplies to maintain proper inventory.
  • Knowledgeable of all lab procedures and specimen submission requirements.
  • Understand and use proper safety practices.
  • Maintains confidentiality related to patient, family, client facility and staff in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Provides services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
