LEAD DELIVERY DRIVER

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lead Delivery Driver is responsible for overseeing the operation of Dozen's team of delivery drivers, including scheduling, training, assisting with hiring, route planning, delivery vehicle maintenance, and delivery vehicle cleanliness. These duties are in addition to the daily Delivery Driver responsibilities. This is a non-exempt (hourly) role that reports to the Wholesale Production Manager. The responsibilities of this role include, but aren't limited to:

DELIVERY

  • Assists wholesale production manager with route planning, including alternate routes to take during road closures or special events.
  • Accurately packages the correct quantity of bread items for delivery.
  • Delivers pastry bins and bread items quickly and accurately to each location, ensuring each customer receives the correct product.
  • After delivering to a business where employees are not yet present, makes sure that the alarm is set and the building is securely locked upon leaving.
  • Always drives in a safe manner, following all traffic laws.
  • Ensures that paper invoices are accurately delivered to the customers who receive them.
MAINTENANCE
  • Maintains a maintenance schedule for all delivery vehicles, including: oil changes, routine tire rotations, and washes as needed.
  • Regularly checks tire tread depth and fluid levels of delivery vehicles, ensuring that fluids are topped off as needed and tires are replaced when treads are low (3/32 or below).
  • Plans and executes needed repairs and maintenance for delivery vehicles, including drop off and pick up at repair centers.
  • Assigns weekly cleaning for each vehicle to delivery drivers, rotating the person who is responsible for this each week.
OTHER TASKS
  • Prepares for the next day by counting and labeling the bags for the next day's wholesale bread accounts.
  • Shops for items as needed; brings these items back to Dozen and unloads them in a timely and organized manner.
  • Follows all food safety regulations at all times.
  • Monitors Dozen's GPS system, LinxUp, periodically to review safety alerts and routes of all drivers.
TEAM
  • Communicates with pastry, bread, and management staff regarding any questions, problems, or delays in daily wholesale orders.
  • Trains new delivery drivers; delegates training to experienced drivers when needed.
  • Creates the weekly schedule for delivery drivers, ensuring adequate coverage for each day.
  • Maintains updated driver availability sheets.
  • Supervises delivery drivers, coaching and training for better performance as needed.
