POSITION CONCEPT:

The Environmental Technician I - Solar Operations ensures compliance with state & federal environmental regulations. Provides support to Tampa Electric's Solar & Energy Storage Operations with generating facilities by performing inspections, monitoring, and sampling functions. Provides support to ESD, Renewables, Project Management and Engineering.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs required compliance inspections of the permitted stormwater management systems (SWMS) for all facilities managed by the Solar & Energy Storage Operations Dept. Ensures non-compliance issues are addressed in a timely manner and maintains required documentation.
  • Develops, edits, revises, and maintains SWMS inspection notebooks and worksheets. Provides SWMS training to Solar Technicians and other Solar Operations team members.
  • Develops and maintains Solar Operations hazardous materials, hazardous waste management and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) programs. Provides applicable environmental training to Solar Technicians and other Solar Operations team members.
  • Ensures federal, state and local compliance of various water use permits as required for normal solar operations.
  • Represents Solar Operations as the point of contact on environmental matters related to emergencies, special projects, audits and other initiatives for EMS activities.

EDUCATION:

Required: Valid High School Diploma or valid GED

Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree from accredited college/university in Natural Science, Environmental Policy or Engineering.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required: FDEP Stormwater Inspector certification will be required within 6 months of hiring date.

Preferred: HAZWOPER 40 Hour and 8 Hour HAZWOPER Annual Refresher.

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Less than four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree; six (6) years with an Associate's degree; eight (8) years with a high school diploma

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: Intermediate capability to develop and use spreadsheets for environmental analysis andreport generation and/or moderately advanced chemical calculations.Intermediate technical writing and communication skills related to internal and external communications. Functional ability to interpret environmental regulations and comply with corporate safety programs. Integrate requirements into compliance activities.Functional technical knowledge of utility systems and major equipment or moderately complex laboratory instrumentation. Basic permitting knowledge.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Consists of job hours (i.e. overtime, shift, weekends, etc.), working environment (i.e. indoors, outdoors, etc.), level of stress, noise level, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for work assigned (Daily).
  • Must be able to independently operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner (Daily).
  • Must be able to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time Daily).
  • Must be able to pull, push, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (Weekly).
  • Must be physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor (Daily).
