ROLE OVERVIEW: As a Physical Therapy Specialist, you will deliver personalized physical therapy services that include assessment, treatment planning, implementation, education, and ongoing communication to help patients achieve their functional goals. You will also collaborate positively with fellow healthcare professionals and support staff.

QUALIFICATIONS: To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Knowledge of and skills to address the physical and developmental needs of diverse age groups.
  • Ability to remain composed in emergency situations.
  • Graduate of an APTA-approved physical therapy program.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a physical therapy aide.
  • Current license from the state Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: In this role, you will be expected to:

  1. Provide direct patient care, evaluate functional needs, and consult with specialists, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  2. Develop and implement comprehensive care plans that encourage participation from significant others when appropriate.
  3. Practice within established standards of care.
  4. Direct support staff to achieve patients' functional goals.
  5. Communicate effectively with other professionals for optimal patient outcomes.
  6. Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, including quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards.
  7. Document evaluations, treatment goals, and plans while maintaining accurate records.
  8. Enhance professional growth for yourself and others through educational opportunities and workshops.
  9. Lead and direct staff, serving as a community resource to promote physical therapy.
  10. Demonstrate effective communication skills in English for job requirements.
  11. Exercise independent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  12. Evaluate social situations impartially and work collaboratively with residents and personnel.
  13. Observe workplace safety policies, including infection control and emergency protocols.
  14. Comply with all policies regarding residents' rights and confidentiality (HIPAA).
  15. Understand and adhere to the Employee Handbook policies.
  16. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
