Job Summary
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The scope of practice of the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer includes those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience, has demonstrated competency, and has completed the appropriate ARDMS certification(s) which is the standard of practice in ultrasound.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. * Coordinates program activities to ensure consistent delivery of quality patient-centered care and efficient operations in support of hospital goals and objectives.
2. * Leads the development, implementation, ongoing assessment and improvement of Sonography programs, patient-care protocols, standards of care, policies and procedures. Monitors outcomes; identifies opportunities/gaps and initiates appropriate enhancements and/or corrections. Disseminates new or revised policies, procedures and initiatives.
3. * Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician. Prepares preliminary reports and contacts referring physicians as required. Coordinates with other staff as appropriate to ensure patient care is provided.
4. * Engages with both internal and external partners to advance the SPMC mission and vision. Participates in professional groups/associations. Participates in or leads SPMC work groups, projects and committees as assigned.
5. * Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
• Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
• Three years of experience required, five years of experience preferred. Experience should include routine, vascular, OB and breast ultrasonography.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations
1. ctive certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
