Job Description Nurse Director, Magnet Program Location: Chicago, IL Hospital: RUSH University Medical Center Department: Professional Nursing Practice Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0) Shift: Shift 1 Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:30:00 PM) Summary: The Director, Magnet Program is accountable for coordinating activities required to attain and maintain ANCC Magnet recognition. This position will design the Magnet recognition program strategy by working collaboratively with the direct care providers, nursing leaders and clinical and ancillary leadership colleagues across the organization. This position will research and promote excellence in nursing practice and serve as a catalyst for change to ensure Rush Nursing Service remains a national leader in nursing practice. In collaboration with other nursing leaders, the position facilitates a supportive environment of professionalism, excellence, collegiality and continuous improvement. The position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Other information: Required Job Qualifications: • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure. • Master’s degree. • Expertise and progressive experience in management and/or nursing management. • BSN or MSN. • National Certification. • A high level of analytical ability. • Ability to design complex clinical or administrative systems or programs. • Communication skills required in order to lead, teach and persuade others. • Established reputation as a leader, consultant, and spokesperson for nursing. • The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data. Preferred Job Qualifications: • Earned doctorate. Physical Demands: • Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the work day. • Work required lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs. Responsibilities: STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for nursing aligned with the strategic plan for the medical center. Designs Magnet program strategy in collaboration with the PNS Magnet Committee. Works collaboratively with nursing, physician, operational and ancillary professional leadership to ensure goals of Magnet designation are accomplished. Serves as a liaison to the college of nursing and other entities to develop and maintain relationships to ensure the integration of research and evidence based practice. Communicates and effectively translates the goals and expectations of Magnet standards to nursing leaders and direct care nurses. INSPIRATIONAL LEADERSHIP Provides leadership to the department of nursing in interpretation and compliance with ANCC Magnet standards and expectations. Promotes excellence in nursing excellence in practice and research. Provides a mechanism to disseminate best practices both internally and externally. Acts as a change in support of nursing staff professional practice. OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP Leads Magnet program planning, implementation and evaluation efforts both at a strategic and tactical level. Provides leadership implementation of an ongoing Magnet readiness gap analysis and coordinate the action plan to address areas in need of improvement. Serves as liaison to ensure quality initiatives have strategic alignment with the Magnet standards and expectations. Benchmarks outcomes and acts as the gatekeeper to ensure Magnet standards are maintained and exceeded. PEOPLE LEADERSHIP Provides compelling and focused communication to leaders and staff across the nursing division and the organization to ensure understanding and compliance with Magnet standards and expectations. FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP Serves as liaison to the shared governance structure (PNS). Provides Magnet related information sessions, training and support for nursing staff and leadership. Coordinates the development of Magnet designation application documents. Prepares the Magnet document including collection and submission of key nursing sensitive outcome indicators. Serves as the liaison to the ANCC Magnet office and Magnet list serve. Coordinates submission of abstracts for Magnet conference, Magnet prize awards and other conferences and award opportunities as identified.
