Admissions Counselor

Job Overview:
Responsible for areas relating to the recruitment, evaluation, and enrollment of undergraduate liberal arts students. The ideal candidate is sales-minded and possesses excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. We seek candidates with a strong sense of initiative, the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities concurrently, and who are eager to achieve team and individual goals. The Admissions Counselor reports to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. This position has several career levels; candidates will be offered the level that aligns with their work experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Primary decision maker in the evaluation of applications and the recommendation for admission within assigned territory.
  • Assume responsibility for identified number of enrollments in assigned territory by monitoring key performance indicators throughout the recruitment cycle.
  • Conduct information sessions, campus tours, and interviews (in person and virtual).
  • Represent Wheaton at college fairs, high schools, and other recruitment events, as directed.
  • Plan and implement recruitment travel in assigned territory.
  • Cultivate and nurture strategic connections with churches, high schools, and other influencers within assigned territory.
  • Comfortably communicates by phone, email, text, and video with prospective students and their parents from initial inquiry through enrollment.
  • Provide timely information about Wheaton College and answer inquiries about application procedures, college programs, credentials, status of applications, and application decisions.
  • Provide input to admissions leadership on the admissions process, influencing strategy to improve recruiting results.
  • Collaborate with faculty and other campus partners on a regular basis to ensure a coherent recruiting strategy and consistent messaging.
  • Communicate regularly with campus stakeholders regarding applicant needs and interests and ways the Wheaton community can foster a sense of belonging for all.
  • Organize, attend, and facilitate events including school visits, student panels, alumni coffee house and yield receptions.
  • Identify new opportunities for the College. These may include vendors or tools to aid our recruitment efforts, high schools and universities that are mission fit for Wheaton, ministry organizations that are engaged with our target population, etc.
  • Some student worker supervisory responsibility may be required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Familiarity with Christian liberal arts education.
  • Possess interest and sales minded competencies required to successfully recruit students to Wheaton College.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and drive results.
  • Self-motivated to pursue every student as a potential customer.
  • A valid driver's license (without restrictions) with the ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed. Approximately 5-7 weeks of travel per academic year.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
