Position Purpose:

The Physical Therapy Assistant supports Physical Therapist in helping patients who are recovering from injuries manage pain and regain their mobility. There main responsibility includes preparing therapy equipment for appointments, massaging and stretching patient's muscles and sanitizing therapy areas.

Summary of Duties (not all inclusive)
  • Counsels/Teaches patients and their families on what to do following treatment ensuring patients/caregivers understating. Teaches patients various techniques like balance training etc.
  • Observe the patient with before, during, and after therapy and report notes to Physical Therapist.
  • Produces documentation to support the delivery and remuneration of physical therapy services according to Texas licensure requirements, Texas Department of Health, JCAHO and departmental policy or requirement.
  • Uses a variety of techniques, including stretching exercises and massage to treat patients as instructed by Physical Therapist.
  • Assist patients when moving to and from the therapy area.
  • Demonstrates competence in safe handling/use of equipment, following manufacturer's instructions. Uses approved cleaning agent and follows manufacturer's instructions on dwell time of cleaning agent. Ensuring staging the treatment area with appropriate exercise equipment, adaptive tools for each session, sanitizing the area, removing potential hazards and ensuring there is enough space to complete treatment.
  • Obtains accurate information by performing selected data collection consistent with the plan of care established by the physical therapist, discussing any need for modifications of the plan of care established by the Physical Therapist.

Qualifications
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English required.
  • Licensure in Physical Therapy Assistant by the State of Texas
  • Current BLS (CPR) required within 30 days of hire date.
