Speech-Language Pathologist

The position of a Speech-Language Pathologist will be available at East Central ISD for the 2024-2025 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., March 14, 2024, or until the position is filled.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  3. Conduct evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services.
  4. Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.
  5. Coordinate/conduct and participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in the interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
  6. Support the RTI process as designed.
  7. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve the communication skills of students.
  8. Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.
  9. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the students.
  10. May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).
  11. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings.
  12. Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  13. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  14. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  15. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
  17. Complete and maintain documentation for School Health and Related Services (SHARS) service provision consistent with federal, state and local regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist License granted by the State Board of Examiners for
Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
Bachelor's Degree
Valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate
Bilingual Preferred

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard testing equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; Assistive Technology equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise. Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more), and positioning of students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; assist non-ambulatory students and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment. Exposure to biological hazards. May require districtwide travel.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 2024-2025 School Year
SALARY: Based on Board-approved salary scale for 2024-2025 school year (stipend and 1st year signing bonus based on experience)
