Title: Staff Anesthetist

Reporting Relationship: Anesthesia Manager, CEO

General Summary of Responsibilities: Participates in, but not limited to, ongoing functioning of the department: share attendance of management meetings, budgeting and acquisition of equipment to maintain and update as needed, performance improvement studies and implementation.

This employee is responsible for functioning as a staff anesthesia provider, responsible for the administration of general, intravenous regional, monitored anesthesia care with conscious to deep sedation, epidural, and spinal anesthesia in accordance with the standards of care governed by credentialing. The population encompasses newborns through adults.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Develop, communicate and evaluate anesthesia policies and procedures, formulate and evaluate departmental goals and participate in the budgeting process.

2. Participate in the delivery system of peri-anesthesia care for designated patients, assist with establishment of intravenous access, respond to all Code Blue calls unless administering another anesthetic at the time, respond to calls for assistance of respiratory distress or arrest, trauma or disaster.

3. Provide anesthesia care for obstetric patients as needed, including anesthesia standby at deliveries as requested by attending physician.

4. Pre- and post-anesthesia assessments.

5. Maintenance of safely functioning equipment.

6. Supervise and be available to aid in a post-anesthesia care unit.

7. Participate in performance improvement and on committees assigned by the administration.

Other Job Functions:

1. Maintain Professional status, updating credentialing and continuing education as required. (Refer to Medical Staff Bylaws regarding credentialing of Allied Health Professionals.)

2. Participate in teaching patients, their families and staff as needed.

3. Performs other related duties assigned or requested.

Job Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Successful completion of a State of Nebraska approved program of Nurse Anesthesia

Preferred: Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia or Related Field

Experience:

Required: Two years current nurse anesthetist experience
Competence in delivering general and regional anesthesia/

Preferred:

License/Certifications:

Required: Current Nebraska RN License and Nebraska APRN- CRNA certificate.
Current membership in AANA with current National recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Current ACLS,BLS,PALS, NRP and Current and valid Driver's License

Personal Skills: Ability to communicate and cooperate in an effective and congenial manner with co-workers, medical staff, patients and their families.
