Position Summary:

School Social Workers are an integral link between school, home, and the community. School social workers help students achieve academic success by addressing emotional, behavioral, developmental, and educational needs with a specific focus on improving student attendance and overall success.

Essential Functions:
  • Help students achieve success in school by addressing troubles that interfere with learning
  • Assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, and positive behavioral support
  • Provides crisis intervention to students when needed
  • Assists with conflict resolution, anger management and social interaction skills
  • Collaborates with administrators, staff, students and families to identify and address unmet needs.
  • Facilitates individual and/or group counseling to students on a short-term or on-going basis
  • Participates in special education assessment meetings as well as individual Educational Planning Meetings
  • Assists with developing and implementing positive behavioral intervention strategies
  • Works to identify and address circumstances surrounding student attendance concerns
  • Identify and address circumstances surrounding student attendance concerns.
  • Conducts home visits as needed to support student attendance and engagement
  • Collaborates with teachers, school counselors and other school staff members about methods for helping individual students
  • Works with families to build positive home/school connections and improve attendance
  • Links families with appropriate resources within the school or community
  • Collaborates with appropriate social services agencies that are involved with students and families
  • Collaboration with the Special Education Director providing services to students via the IEP when appropriate
  • Supports student mental health issues
  • Assists in crisis intervention/management
  • Supervise Social Work interns
Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Social Work
  • Certified by the PA Department of Education as a School Social Worker preferred. If not currently certified, must be willing to become certified.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania school laws and regulations pertaining to student welfare and attendance.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, families, school staff, and community agencies.
  • Experience in a school setting preferred.
