Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.

Required Documents to Apply:
The Clinical Skills Educators (CS Educators) will assist in the instruction and implementation of the Clinical Skills I-IV courses where medical students will learn patient-centered interviewing, physical examination, medical documentation, professionalism, procedural skills, clinical reasoning, and shared patient-centered management planning. Students and Educators will predominantly work with standardized patients (SPs) in small group activities.

These CS Educators will assist in the facilitation, implementation, and grading of performance-based clinical skills assessments such as providing formative feedback, grading objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), and other types of assessments within the clinical curriculum. The recruited candidate must be committed to excellence in instruction, facilitation, assessment, and mentoring medical students. Instruction will primarily occur on the AWSOM medical school campus: 1001 NE J Street, Bentonville, AR.

These are part-time positions, approximately four (4) to six (6) hours per week and will report to the Director of Clinical Skills. The CS Educators will actively interact with the Standardized Patient (SP) Manager, the Clinical Skills Operations Manager, SPs, staff and other faculty members.

About The Position

The position is open at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor levels, depending on experience and qualifications.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:

  • Directly observes and provides constructive narrative verbal and written feedback to students on patient-centered interviewing and physical examination skills, professionalism, clinical reasoning, shared decision making, patient management, oral case presentation, and medical documentation.
  • Utilizes educational and simulation technology platforms to collect data and monitor student's progress in achieving annual competency and proficiency milestones.
  • Assists the Director of Clinical Skills, the clinical skills and simulation personnel to meet curriculum course-related objectives in any standardized patient, simulation, and modeling-related activities.
  • Facilitates, documents, and grades performance-based clinical skills assessments, OSCEs, and other type of assessments within the curriculum to assess the student's clinical competence when SPs and/or other simulation modalities are integrated into the assessment.
  • Participates in clinical skills meetings and faculty development workshops.
Minimum Education
  • M.D., D.O., from a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)/American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic Colleges Accreditation (COCA) accredited institution.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency program in respective specialty.
Minimum Work Experiences
  • Two years teaching a clinical skills course within an LCME or COCA accredited undergraduate medical education program.
  • Five years of professional experience as a physician.
Preferred Work Experiences and Qualifications
  • MD/DO licensed or eligible to practice medicine in Arkansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma.
