JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education PAY GRADE: Prof/Tech (2)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Plan and provide speech -language pathology services to students with speech, voice or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Master's degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA)
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Texas Education Agency speech therapy certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions
  • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management
  1. Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s) which includes:

a. Design therapy program to be implemented by the assistant.
b. Maintain records of supervision and evaluate assistant's and students'.
c. Evaluate, establish eligibility, and submit written reports of students.
d. Conduct the ARD meetings.
e. Ensure services are provided.

2. May direct and monitor the medicaid reimbursement program for speech/language services which includes:
a. Direct supervision of speech/language pathology assistants.
b. Ensure appropriate assessment and service delivery.

REMOTE LEARNING:
Monitor virtual classroom environments to ensure learning and appropriate physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during indicated work hours to confer with district personnel, students, and/or parents. The rest of the workday is committed to planning, preparing, implementing, and evaluating lessons and activities of campus employees

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
