POSITION SUMMARY:

The Occupational Therapist assists patients in the restoration of occupational function through evaluation and treatment. Performs examination and evaluation of patients' occupational and functional status including musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary and integumentary systems as they relate to functional mobility skills. Includes gathering information from the patient chart, patient and family, or other source as appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy

Experience: N/A

Licensure/ Certification: State license and National Board Certification Occupational Therapy registration. Current state driver's license for those providing Driving Evaluations. CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Other Skills/ Knowledge: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the population served. Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills work well with others and to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other treatment team members when gathering and exchanging patient condition information. Analytical ability to evaluate patients' Occupational and functional status, establish therapy goals, formulate treatment plans consistent with goals, observe patients and document status, and assist techs and assistants in resolving problems. Excellent computer skills and the ability to process detailed information in an accurate manner.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

Analyzes evaluation results, establishes OT diagnosis/prognosis, sets appropriate short and long term goals, and designs an individualized plan of care.

Selects, administers, and monitors treatment interventions as appropriate.

Reassesses patients' responses and/or outcomes to intervention, adjusts program accordingly, and coordinates treatment with patients, families, Occupational Therapist Assistants, and other health care disciplines.

Communicates treatment changes to physician as appropriate. Recommends other disciplines, programs, agencies, and equipment to patient and/or family, as appropriate.

Plans and documents appropriate home programs. Instructs patients and their families in appropriate continued exercise or therapy programs and in use of therapy techniques and assistive devices.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to improve quality of care and facilitate discharge planning.

Attends patient review conferences, clinics, in-service education classes and meeting as necessary.

Attends mandatory department, Medical Center meetings, and other work-related educational programs.

Mentors, evaluates and supervises students, orients and trains new department staff and volunteers as assigned.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation including evaluations, re-evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, patient education, and prepares documents to communicate to appropriate care team Mission Partners.

Maintains personal productivity at or above department standard. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and incorporates evidence-based practice into the delivery of care.

Supports and is involved in the continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and improve the utilization of the human, capital, and Occupational resources to support OSF Key Results.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Continually traversing corridors. Must occasionally remain in a stationary position, sitting or standing, for up to 4 hours. Operates office and medical equipment constantly. Frequently lifts/moves/carries objects/persons up to 35 pounds. Occasionally must position self to lower heights under 4', stooping or squatting. Near acuity vision needed. Constant coordination of hands, fingers, feet and eyes required. Completes basic math quickly and accurately. Understands complex problems and explores alternative solutions. Organizes thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology. Constantly working with others; must converse and be understood verbally and in written form. Occasionally must work to understand and negotiate and/or integrate different viewpoints. Continual decision making based on data and observation required. The environment includes frequent emotional stress and occasional violent or assaultive customers. Hazards include exposure to blood borne pathogens, contagious diseases and chemical exposure.
