Job Summary
AKS Engineering & Forestry, LLC is seeking an immediate full-time position for a NEPA Specialist to join our growing Natural Resource team. This is a full-time, hourly hybrid position reporting to one of our Oregon office locations (Tualatin, Keizer, Bend, The Dalles).
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or biological sciences, planning, or similar. Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years NEPA experience with a focus on transportation, public infrastructure, and public housing projects.
  • Thorough understanding of NEPA and the intersection of NEPA with other environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Historical Preservation Act.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deliverable targets and deadlines, work well under time constraints, balance multiple priorities, and track progression of various documents concurrently.
  • Excellent research, analytical, writing, oral communication and organizational skills.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct NEPA impact analyses for a wide range of public projects and provide input to project team regarding the appropriate level of NEPA documentation.
  • Oversee and prepare legally sound NEPA documents (i.e., EISs, EAs, and categorical exclusions) and other environmental compliance documents (e.g., biological assessments).
  • When needed, oversee the preparation of NEPA documents prepared by subconsultants and provide QA/QC for deliverables.
  • Coordinate with local/state/federal agencies and the public in helping clients meet compliance requirements, effectively communicate project details, and record stakeholder input, including developing presentations and facilitating agency and public meetings.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments and best practices in NEPA law, regulation, policy, and guidance and provide training and education to internal teams when necessary.
