Summary:

AgReserves is seeking an enthusiastic Geographic Information Systems Intern to join our highly collaborate GIS team and be based as the South Valley Farms office in Wasco, CA. This is a practical, mentored, hands-on position to gain exposure using GIS tools to produce cartographic products for the broad needs of our agriculture and land-based company. The GIS Intern works with other departments to identify GIS needs which includes digitally maintaining fields/pastures, roads, legal deeds, and water-related data sets. A successful GIS Intern is eager to support the team with customer requests well while maintaining corporate process strategy and standards, and meeting deadlines according to SLAs and project milestones.

Responsibilities:
• Maintaining data quality/consistency by reviewing existing and incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, and documentation.
• Overseeing entry of data into database, including application of coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning and automatic conversion to vectors, and conversion of other sources of digital data.
• Determining or verifying designations of cartographic symbols.
• Helping to maintain data standards throughout the company; administering and supporting assigned operation's components within companywide Enterprise SDE Geodatabase environment, enforcing data standards and policies, including quality standards for data gathering.
• Maintaining and correcting spatial data.
• Actively participating as a team member of the corporate GIS mapping group, which recommends and maintains companywide GIS standards led by the GIS Manager.
• Collecting high quality GPS data, including as an advanced user of mobile GPS devices.
• Supporting company mapping needs by researching specific problems, such as developing planning/modeling, mapping, or assessing geologic and environmental factors.
• Recommending procedures to increase data accessibility and ease of use. Applying knowledge of spatial feature representations, such as points, lines, polygons, and geographic information system.
• Maintaining, in cooperation with the company GIS analysts and developer(s), web-based GIS applications, not limited to server, web applications, editing, and analysis.
• Providing mapping services to assigned operations to enhance use and management of land and water resources.
• Performing basic title research, reviews surveys, and reviews and drafts property legal descriptions.
• Creating output, such as maps and graphs, using computer and GIS software and related equipment. Presenting information to users and answers questions.

Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled or graduate with a Bachelor's degree in GIS/mapping or related field.
• Desired experience: GIS and specifically Geodatabases, including editing, updating, and modifying the schema using domains, relationship classes, topologies, and geometric networks. ESRI's ArcGIS software, high-end GPS units and ArcPad or similar software. AutoCAD drawings in ESRI products.
• Combination of GIS and agriculture experience may be substituted for educational requirements, at company's discretion.
• Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally, within the US and potentially internationally.
• Exposure to production agriculture, either professionally or personally, helpful.
• Ability to design professional cartographic products.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and listening skills.
• Solid skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation.
• Willing and able to spend up to 50% of time in the field collecting GPS and other data, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions.
• Eligible candidates must be willing/able to work in-person at the Wasco, CA offices. Although a full-time schedule is preferred, we are able to accommodate part-time/flexible hours.
