The mission of Faith Regional Health Services is to serve Christ by providing all people with exemplary medical services in an environment of love and care.

Summary:

Performs sleep study procedure, staging and scoring with knowledge and understanding of the differences in patient care required based on age, medical history, race and religious beliefs. Works with the Sleep Disorders Center Medical Director and Coordinator on test scheduling, report distribution, and equipment troubleshooting. Assists in updating policy and procedures as well as participating with equipment maintenance and performance improvement. Participates under direction of the Sleep Center Medical Director and Coordinator with patient and family education as it relates to sleep apnea and also communicates with patient, family, nursing, and other healthcare team members for integration of care/services. Assumes scheduling, scoring, reporting, & general supervisory responsibilities/duties in absence of the Sleep Center Coordinator. The Sleep Disorders Center Technologist is expected to carry out the mission, vision, values, and quality commitment of Faith Regional Health Services to all internal and external customers.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:

☐ Neonate (birth - 28 days)

☐ Pediatric/Child (1 year - 12 years)

☐ Adolescent (12 years - 18 years)

    • § Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.

    • § Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision-making.
2. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Sleep Lab Department as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes but is not limited to the age of the patient served.

3. Applies electrodes, belts and sensors according to policy and procedure, fits patient with appropriate-sized CPAP mask and tests for leaks, then performs sleep testing according to the physician's orders with the knowledge and understanding of differences in care required based on age, physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of the patient.

4. Operates and maintains all equipment used in the sleep center such as computer, integrated digital video system, CPAP machine, fax, and copier. Notifies the hospital Biomed department and/or manufacturer with any non-functioning or improperly functioning equipment.

5. Records physiological variables and patient movement artifact on graph and recognizes arrhythmia and abnormal respiratory patterns. Calls preliminary report to medical director next morning following test in the absence of the coordinator. Studies completed polysomnogram tracings and summarizes data showing stages of sleep, abnormal breathing events, periodic leg movements, arrhythmia and other information while applying knowledge of polysomnograph testing principles.

6. Scores reports in a clear and concise manner in the absence of the coordinator incorporating patient's medical history, completed patient questionnaires, previous and current polysomnogram information, presence and type of abnormality and other information for analysis by physician or other health care professional.

7. Cross-trains into other related departments and assists in absence of regular staff.

8. Participates in the Sleep Lab's performance improvement program and uses outcome information to further enhance the quality of patient care thus assuring that performance improvement services are achieved.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

EDUCATION:
    • GED or High School Diploma preferred.
    • Associate Degree preferred.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy or Sleep Technologypreferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire required.
    • Current Respiratory Therapist License from the State of Nebraska or Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification required.
