Reports to: Principal
Summary
SLPs provide services to support the instructional program at a school. Therefore, SLPs' unique contributions complement and augment those made by other professionals. SLPs work closely with the student's teacher, reading specialists, literacy coaches, special education teachers, occupational therapists, and school social workers, in addition to others. Working with the school administrators in designing and implementing programs is crucial. On site supervision for CF will be provided.

Job Duties:
  • To provide appropriate speech-language services in elementary, middle, and high schools with no school level underserved.
  • To work with students exhibiting the full range of communication disorders, including those involving language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing.
  • Provide a distinct set of roles based on expertise in language, offering assistance in addressing the linguistic and metalinguistic foundations of curriculum learning for students with disabilities, as well as other learners who are at risk for school failure, or those who struggle in school settings.
  • Provide intake diagnostic consultation as needed.
  • Coordinate screening of all new students for speech and/or language services.
  • Coordinate scheduling and implementation of speech and language services.
  • Implement IEPs, assess students' performance, and track their progress.
  • Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students' progress and goals.
  • Discuss student's progress with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Coordinate selection and ordering of materials for the department.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings, as required.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in hall duty, cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.

Physical Requirements
  • Intermittent standing and sitting 6-7 hours daily
  • Escorting students to and from various classroom settings, which requires climbing stairs
  • Accompany students on playground and field trips, which may require elevated physical activity and/or riding a bus

Environment Requirements
Individuals work in climate-controlled, indoor environments, however, there are several circumstances which could require being outdoors or outside of the school grounds. Field trips may be required, which includes supervising students on buses, in addition to the trip destination.

Resource Requirements
  • Ability to work on a desktop personal computer or laptop, as required, for the purpose of recording grades, creating lesson plans and communicating with colleagues, supervisors and parents.
  • Knowledge of computers, mobile/tablet devices, gaming consoles and their applications, as they pertain to students and their daily use, for the purpose of coordinating those devices with instructional learning.

Social Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectably, both verbally and non-verbally
  • Ability to develop trusting relationships with students, parents, colleagues and supervisors

Additional Requirements
  • Proof of US Citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Evidence that a criminal history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education
  • Evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities, with reasonable accommodations
  • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test
