Laborer (Street Department)

The City of Brookhaven is hiring for a General Laborer position for the city's Street Department. **Summary: Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city streets and storm drainage facilities and systems. Minimum Qualifications *If candidate believes he/she is qualified for the job although he/she does not have the minimum qualifications set forth below, he/she may request special consideration through substitution of related education and/ experience, demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this position. * Education and/or Experience: ** High School Diploma or GED/HSE equivalent Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have and maintain a valid State driver's license and CDL certification, or ability to obtain CDL. Class A, B, or D is acceptable for CDL requirement Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: Must be able to pass a drug/background screen Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance construction, and repair activities Skill in operation of job-related tools and equipment Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time Ability to effectively understand, communicate, and carry out written and verbal instruction Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Working knowledge of occupational hazards
