EXPERIENCE CREDIT: A maximum of two (2) years may be granted for experience outside of the Beaumont Unified School District.

7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
DEFINITIONUnder supervision, but with latitude for independent action, to serve as secretary to the Administrator/Principal and as receptionist; does a wide variety of difficult and responsible clerical work; prepares reports; composes and types; performs public relations and communications services; and does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as secretary to the Administrator/Principal, in record-keeping and reporting, and office operations; buffers him/her against unnecessary interruptions; obtains information, arranges appointments; and keeps track of his schedule; types correspondence, assists in composing bulletins; provides clerical services; assists in maintaining proper atmosphere and rapport conducive to a good office environment; receives telephone calls and personal contacts from parents and/or the public requesting information, appointments, and actions; answers questions and gives out information correctly and discreetly; transmits messages and information appropriately; may furnish routine first aid services, assesses injuries and illnesses, and take appropriate action; responsible for ordering office supplies; compiles and maintains basic records and files; on office equipment, supplies, requisitions, work orders, encumbrances, and expenditures; and on personnel time records, classified and certificated.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Positions in this class report to the Administrator/Principal. The basic responsibility of this position is to free the Administrator/Principal from routine tasks and assist him/her in the performance of his/her duties without infringing on the Administrator/Principal's prerogatives and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from high school and or one year of business college or related work.
Experience:
Three years of responsible and varied secretarial experience, and preferably including one year of experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge of:
Modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; and standard office machine operation.
Ability to:
Perform a variety of clerical work requiring speed and accuracy; compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports; perform job assignments with numerous interruptions; learn policies and specific rules and apply them with good judgment; make arithmetical calculations; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities in situations requiring diplomacy, friendliness, poise, tact and good judgment; type at a net corrected speed of 50 words per minute; pass district-administered test with a score of 70% or better.
Physical:
Good physical condition as determined by pre- and post-employment inquiries and health reports; must pass District physical examination, which includes drug screening; provide proof of negative TB test at time of hiring.
