Why this role matters:

As a Field Engineer (E1) at Water Works Engineers, you will be essential in overseeing and documenting the daily construction activities of our projects. Your role ensures construction is executed according to design specifications, contract requirements, and applicable permits. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop your construction management and inspection skills, with responsibilities that include reviewing quality control tests, coordinating construction changes, and using GIS equipment for documentation. Your detailed observations and effective coordination will be key to maintaining project quality and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.

Your daily impact:

  • Observe and document day-to-day onsite construction activities.
  • Perform inspections to ensure compliance with contract requirements and applicable permits.
  • Review and approve the contractor's quality control testing.
  • Coordinate, implement, and track construction changes.
  • Track progress and document non-compliance issues.
  • Utilize GIS equipment to locate and document construction activities.
  • Coordinate effectively with the Construction Manager (CM), Engineer, Owner/Client, and Contractor.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, contracts, drawings, specifications, safety standards, and pollution prevention plan requirements.
  • Perform fieldwork, including navigating active construction sites.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program or comparable experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification or comparable experience.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform both office and field work as needed.
  • Ability to navigate an active construction site, including walking, climbing ladders, and performing other site-specific tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of design and construction industry standards, practices, codes, contracts, drawings, specifications, safety standards, and pollution prevention plan requirements.
  • Understanding of surveying concepts and proficiency in GIS software, CADD software, and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Project).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid CA driver's license and ability to drive between multiple construction sites (vehicle provided or personal vehicle mileage reimbursed)
