Summary:

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Fiber Foreman - Generalist to oversee a broad range of fiber operations at our cutting-edge data center in Memphis, TN. This role involves managing various fiber tasks, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with a focus on ensuring the optimal performance and integrity of the data center's fiber infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be a meticulous and proactive leader, adept in all aspects of fiber operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • General Fiber Operations: Lead and manage the team responsible for a wide range of fiber optic tasks, including installation, routing, maintenance, prep, labeling, and troubleshooting. Ensure precision and adherence to industry standards in all fiber operations.
  • Installation and Maintenance: Oversee the installation and upkeep of fiber optics, ensuring connections are secure, correctly routed, and functional. Address any issues promptly to maintain network reliability and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve issues within the fiber network, including surge troubleshooting, using industry-standard tools and techniques. Minimize downtime and ensure continuous operations through effective problem-solving.
  • Quality Control: Implement and maintain strict quality control measures to ensure all fiber installations and maintenance activities meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance, training, and support to the fiber operations team. Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 4-5 years of direct experience with fiber operations in large-scale Tier 3 or 4 data center environments.
  • 2+ years of experience managing teams (preferably data center cabling technicians)

Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Proficiency in installing, certifying, and troubleshooting fiber optics in hyperscale data centers.
  • Skilled in using light meters, OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), OPMs (Optical Power Meters), fiber certifiers, loopbacks, and optical probes.
  • Understanding of different types of switches and port identifications.
  • Certification in fiber optics and/or cable installation.
  • Extensive experience in fiber splicing.
  • Technical knowledge of communication networks.
  • Familiarity with computers and associated electronic systems.
  • Knowledgeable about different fiber types.
  • Experience installing structured cabling.
  • Ability to properly clean fiber and validate cleanliness.
  • Capable of using judgment and analytical skills in complex installations.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks based on fluctuating needs.
  • Ability to adapt, make decisions, problem-solve, and collaborate efficiently under pressure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
