South Central Power Company, Ohio’s largest electric cooperative, is seeking an individual to fill the position of GIS Specialist at our Lancaster, Ohio headquarters.

What you will be doing…

Essential functions include develop and maintaining the cooperative’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position gathers, analyzes and integrates spatial data and determines how best the information can be displayed using GIS. Write and update documentation to support procedures. Prepare and publish/prints GIS maps for other departments. Present information to users and answer questions. Develop and maintains quality control standards for GIS database and works in compliance with those standards. Prepare AutoCAD drawings that match the specifications of engineers. Determine and understands the dimensions and elements of the designs. Keeps current with new GIS information and technology. Operates and maintains plotters and related GIS equipment. Orders plotter supplies as needed.

This position will be required to travel off-site to anywhere in the South Central Power territory. The GIS Specialist will report to our SCADA & Automation Engineer.

What the job requires…

The successful candidate will have experience writing scripts, programming, data management, and working with ESRI.

  • Associate of Science degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is required. Educational requirement may be substituted by an equivalent combination of experience, training and skills as approved by the cooperative.
  • Knowledge and experience working with fiber facility data preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with ESRI ArcGIS software suite and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of GIS systems, data collection, databases, and mapping.
  • Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL or Python and NISC experience is a desirable.
  • Good communication (verbal and written) and listening skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Self-motivation, adaptability, and ability to meet deadlines.
