JOB DESCRIPTION

GUIDANCE COUNSELOR - ELEMENTARY
PURPOSE: To provide services to aid student success in district curriculum and to help with social and emotional needs of students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans and selects student curriculum programs.
2. Administers all standardized tests and surveys and interprets the results to students and parents.
3. Provides counseling to students.
4. Interprets the District's objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
5. Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality.
6. Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
7. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent or his/her designee may assign.
8. Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.
9. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Travels between school district buildings and meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION

• IN State Certification as a Guidance Counselor
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
• Bachelors and Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
