POSITION SUMMARY:
Join our dedicated team as a Respiratory Therapy Specialist, where you will perform safe and effective respiratory therapy modalities as prescribed by physicians. You will assess patient needs and develop tailored care plans, ensuring active participation from a multi-disciplinary team. Key responsibilities include setting up, maintaining, and monitoring mechanical ventilation as per established policies. You will administer medications and operate essential respiratory equipment, such as mechanical ventilators and oxygen delivery systems. Your role will also involve performing suctioning procedures, drawing blood gases, and accurately interpreting results.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program with provision of diploma or transcript upon hire.
  • Credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care and a current Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • For CRT credential holders, eligibility to obtain RRT within 18 months of employment is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Certifications in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are desirable but not required.
  • Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) certification is a plus.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one year of skilled respiratory experience within the past two years.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced patient care environment.

COMPETENCIES:

  • A strong focus on customer service and the ability to show patience and empathy while caring for a diverse patient population.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English for effective communication.
  • Accurate and efficient written communication for medical charting and billing purposes.
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel between multiple work sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understanding blood gas analyzer operation, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Performing daily quality control, documenting actions appropriately.
  • Safe and proper handling of blood gas sampling and testing.
  • Ability to conduct pulmonary function tests and exercise testing as needed.
  • Knowledge of bronchoscopy equipment operation and set up.
  • Providing respiratory care based on physician orders while adhering to departmental policies.
  • Operating and monitoring critical respiratory equipment for all age groups.
  • Conducting thorough patient assessments prior to initiating therapy.
  • Delivering therapeutic gases effectively, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Administering aerosol and chest physiotherapy as per departmental protocols.
  • Ensuring safe medication delivery and responding to any adverse effects.
  • Performing 12-lead EKGs when necessary.
