Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Specialty: Labor and Delivery

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: 12-hour night shift

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: One year of experience preferred

License: State RN license or RN license from a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) - Required

Certifications:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification - Required
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) Certification or Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Certification - Required

Must-Have:
- Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to labor and delivery
- Ability to float within a specified distance for critical needs, which may include duties outside the original assignment job requirements

Job Description:

- Assess patients' physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, and review of medical records and clinical data.
- Evaluate patient responses and intervene to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Develop and implement patient care plans and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate competency in therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including IV administration, wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
- Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect the health, safety, and rights of each patient.
- Provide patient and family education, assessing learning readiness, needs, and ability, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching.
- Recognize the patient or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate, coordinated care based on respect for the patient's preferences, values, and needs.
- Deliver relationship-based care with respect for cultural differences and diversity of human experience.
- Delegate to non-RN personnel in accordance with state board of nursing and hospital policy.
- Use time, personnel, equipment, and supplies effectively to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Serve as a professional role model for all staff, demonstrating ethical, legal, and professional nursing processes.
- Manage resources and patient flow by matching nursing competencies with individual patient and unit needs.
- Use standards of care, hospital policies/procedures, and regulatory guidelines to guide practice.
- Function effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making.
- Precept and mentor new staff or nursing students as needed; seek learning opportunities and continuing education.
- Maintain professional records that demonstrate competency and lifelong learning.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities.
- Use current healthcare research findings and evidence to expand clinical knowledge and enhance role performance.
