District School Nurse

Summary: Goodrich Area Schools is seeking a grant-funded School Nurse consultant who would be responsible for providing health service and education to Goodrich students and families in order to improve attendance and achieve of academic goals. The Nurse would act as a care coordinator and case manager for students with chronic illness or other health challenges.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with current State of Michigan R.N. license required
  • Two years' experience working with children in a school or pediatric setting
  • Knowledge of computer technology, word processing and database software preferred
  • Current CPR certification preferred
  • Knowledge of normal child development and common delays in relation to chronic diseases
  • Excellent communication skills including instruction and public speaking
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws and regulations surrounding the delivery of school health services.
  • Excellent ability to relate to and develop relationships with students, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to perform during emergency/crisis situations
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in accordance with board policy and established administrative guidelines
  • A self-directed thinker and problem solver
  • Willingness to develop professional knowledge and skill to maintain proficiency
  • Punctuality and good attendance are imperative

Essential Functions and Representative Duties
  • Support student advanced health needs and conditions, providing ongoing support and oversight as needed
  • Assist with development and implementation of 504 plans
  • Act as medial advisor for students with medical plans
  • Mental health, behavior support including threat assessment, self-harm assistance and resources
  • Promote healthy lifestyles through education of and as liaison for students, parents and community (i.e. vaping, attendance, anxiety, etc.)
  • Coordinate, participate and provide updated MERT team trainings, drills and debriefing District wide
  • Provide AED, CPR training for District staff
  • Provide PD for all staff on chronic health conditions including verification that key staff are aware of student medical conditions and protocol for assisting when needed
  • Coordinate immunization clinics, hearing and vision screenings with the GCHD including follow up referrals
  • Assist staff in the proper administration and storage of medications including necessary permissions from parents and instructions from physicians
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Environment
Work is performed at all buildings throughout the Goodrich Area School District. There is limited exposure to physical risk.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full time, one year position that is not part of the bargaining unit, funded
through grant dollars for the 2024-25 school year.

Superintendent of Schools

COMPENSATION:
Dependent upon experience. Grant funded
