Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Jail Administrator, the Jail Programmer provides detainees with a multitude of programming opportunities structured to engender knowledge and skills sustainable for pre-release and re-entry into law-abiding communities. The Programmer develops and conducts classes, seminars, and events using available internal and external resources and community self-help organizations designed to teach wholesome behavior towards becoming productive citizens. The Jail Programmer confirms Huber Law detainees' work schedule, confirms employment, confirms driver's license and insurance status, approves overtime, confirms payment schedule, and conducts job site checks. The Jail Programmer creates and maintains detention worker detail within facility. The Jail Programmer reduces idleness, boredom, and stresses by providing physical activities and hosting games, tournaments, and other events to promote positive social skills.
Examples of Duties

  • Develops and implements programs and activities for detainees offered in the pods, classrooms, and/or gym.
  • Administers the work release program, detainee work assignments, job search, and court ordered furloughs.
  • Interacts and works with detainees in pods and during recreation.
  • Coordinates and implements the volunteer program.
  • Participates and assists in the supervision of the detainee visitation program.
  • Recommends the purchase of program supplies and materials. Determines supply needs for the various programs and activities.
  • Assists in responding to officer assistance calls. Assists in dealing with detainee behavior, writing incident reports and determining when to apply force to protect the safety of detainees and staff. Receives directives from corrections officers regarding facility operations.
  • Attends various meetings, conferences and/or workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:The job requires an Associate Degree in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, or related field, and three to five years of related corrections and supervisory experience, or equivalent. A valid driver's license is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Sixteen hours of continuing education is required per year. CPR/AED/First Aid, Non-Lethal Aerosol Spray, Self-Defense, Riot Baton, Radio, Axon, WRAP and Restraint chair, County IT and HR compliance training, Cell Extraction/Well-being checks, Jail Policy and Procedures, Suicide Prevention and Taser certifications are required.
Supplemental Information

HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Hours vary primarily between 8:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M. Monday-Friday with occasional weekend hours.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Non-Exempt, Non-Union - Grade 10
