INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST I

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s of Applied Science 
  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technologist program
  • 0+ years of experience

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifictions:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT-R)
  • Texas Medical Board certification (MRT)
  • American Heart Association (BLS and PALS)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Interventional Radiology Technologist I position works as part of a procedural team to complete a wide variety of Interventional procedures, to include Body and Neuro Interventional procedures. This position provides direct assistance to physicians, sterilely prep/drape patients, scrub assist, and circulate during interventional procedures. This Interventional Radiology Technologist I position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to Interventional Radiology exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service. This position is a member of the direct patient care team. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Promotes a positive work environment.

  • Utilizes verbal, nonverbal & written communication to achieve mutual understanding.

  • Optimizing protocols to provide for better patient care, image quality and patient experience. This includes positioning, physiology, procedure preparation, and technical factors.
  • Assists physicians during diagnostic procedures or fluoroscopic procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
  • Utilizes AIDET incorporating Key Words and MANAGE UP techniques, when speaking to patients and family members at an age-appropriate level.
  • Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable)
  • Follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures, regularly practices aseptic techniques, and ensures compliance with infection control procedures. 
  • Complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices, and policies.
  • Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects.
  • Reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. 
  • Performs daily imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use.  Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventive maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e., medications) or potential outcomes and obtains assistance, as appropriate.
  • Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered.
  • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies.
  • Ensures their personal timecard is accurate and approves it in a timely manner to prevent retro amendments.
  • Participates in department projects or shared governance activities.
  • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development as a technologist.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations. 
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially regarding activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Possesses basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital / Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision including, organizing workflow, and actively participating in problem-solving.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT

  • Work attire is scrubs.
  • Equipment you will be using:
    • Ultrasonographic units of various vendors
    • Fluoroscopic units of various vendors
    • CT equipment of various vendors
    • Electronic Health Record
    • PACS
  • Employee will be asked to travel to other UTMB campuses.
  • Employees are required to participate in call, weekend, holiday, and disaster team rotations to include emergencies and severe weather.
  • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others.
  • Must be able to push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk long distances.
  • Must be able to stand for a continuous 240 minutes at a time.

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday - Friday 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, with possible call

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Interventional Radiology Technologist II position is an experienced technologist who completes a variety of routine to complex body and neuro interventional procedures to include common and unique procedures of high difficulty. This position is a member of the direct patient care team and is fully competent in all aspects of Interventional Radiology.  The Interventional Technologist II position serves as a mentor to the Interventional Technologist I and students by utilizing skills and knowledge to help train and educate others. This position works independently by exercising sound judgment and executing above average clinical skills on challenging Interventional procedures and patient care situations. The Interventional Technologist II position provides direct assistance to physicians with all Interventional procedures. This position delivers exceptional patient care and adheres to Interventional Radiology exam standards and guidelines established by governing agencies to ensure optimal patient safety and customer service.

  • Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enters charges at the time service is delivered. 
  • Uses resources efficiently; does not waste supplies.
