Job Summary
The Auburn University Libraries is seeking candidates for the position of Library Associate in the Circulation Department of the RBD Library. Reporting to the Facilities Operations/Circulation Manager, this position provides administrative management planning and coordinates business and project operations for members of the Continuing Resource Unit of the Circulation Department of RBD Library.

Essential Functions
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Edit/overlay existing records from OCLC for Voyager catalog maintenance [ex. multi-volume records], analytic treatment of Continuing resources or subseries. Verify all holdings and treatment processes as encountered.
- Confer and cooperate with Cataloging operations and other Library units - assist in amending of Authority files [backlog], restore missing item records to reflect circulation status, and fine tune/finish [complete] existing multi-volume records.
- Export/import bibliographic records using OCLC for new/missing materials [inventory books without current catalog entries or occasional gift serials being added to collection.
- Oversee daily inventory process performed by student employees; hire and train students to work the Shelf Lister program and to conduct triage for book discrepancies - disseminating for appropriate personnel to resolve.
- Offer outstanding customer service to all Library patrons and aide staff and student employees according to professional standards and procedures.
- Close building during intercession when necessary.
- Acts as backup to the Department Head if necessary.
- Serve on/or chair a hiring committee when asked.
- Respond to the Cathelp request line to settle cataloging issues such as call number inaccuracies and suppressed information; approve replacement copies of lost books [swapos] by processing replacement information on responsible patron accounts and adding appropriate catalog holdings.
- Train staff members in all areas of the tasks enumerated in nos. 1-3. Recommend training through HR classes or other web-based opportunities. Assign tasks/special projects, and document work to completion and for accuracy. [i.e, range cards, book transfers, lost reports]
- Direct the discarding/weeding of books to be suppressed from the catalog - to also include appropriate or ultimate recycling. Survey the status of transfers to their respective new locations in the collection, basement accession, or offsite facility, including the processing of Latest in Reference materials (annually).
- Prepare and provide statistical information for annual reporting by collaborating with co-workers to compile comprehensive data regarding all relevant Unit tasks - especially regarding trace requests and notifications, and accurate reporting of holdings, locations, and circulation status. Submit annual evaluations of staff members. Review/edit timesheets for staff members and students and approve them bi-weekly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Level I: Bachelor's Degree
Level II: Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years of relevant experience in managing and processing complex data or materials, or customer/public service in an information-centered organization.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
