POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist with providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well being in district's schools

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Associate Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse Certification; Pediatric care experience desired

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists administrators in developing school health program

2. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs

3. Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects

4. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students

5. Assumes authority for the care of student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness

6. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures

7. Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

8. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.

9. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program

10. Prepares and submits reports as required

11. Screens students, if applicable, for Medicaid or other programs

Specific Job Requirements:

1. Must provide own transportation to travel to schools (For nurses shared at two schools)
