Description

Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic leader to oversee creative activities, events, and programs that bring our community together.

General Description: This is a field position. The incumbent performs routine tasks and fieldwork to assist with the planning and implementation of recreation programs, community events and facilities operations.
Organization: The position reports to either a Recreation Supervisor or a Recreation Coordinator and supervises no staff.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of recreation programs.
  • Leads programs and activities. Program areas might include: sports, games, arts & crafts, nature, music, and/or cultural arts.
  • Assists with the inventory control, management, set up, breakdown, and care of recreation supplies, equipment, and program area.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of community youth recreation programming preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow workplace policies, procedures, and work plans
  • Ability to work with the general public and provide satisfactory customer service
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of participants while enforcing behavioral standards and program policies
Education, Experience and Training: Experience working in a recreation setting preferred. CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Special Conditions:
  • Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting
  • Mandatory participation in staff training

Supplemental Information
Parks and Recreation has year-round, part-time, non-benefited positions available at the Montpelier Recreation Center (15302 Clazemont Road, Montpelier, VA). Additionally, summer camp positions are available at various locations throughout Hanover County.

If selected for a summer camp position, staff must attend a mandatory in-person training from June 2-6, 2025.
