Summary: As a Pathologist, you will play a critical role in examining and diagnosing surgical specimens efficiently and accurately in compliance with CLIA/CAP guidelines and other applicable regulations. This high-volume lab operates on 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Sign out and read slides of pathology cases with a focus on accuracy.
- Adhere to all Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and policies.
- Prioritize successful completion of STAT cases and notify clinicians of any urgent findings.
- Organize daily workflow to meet established Turn-Around-Time (TAT) and productivity standards.
- Meet TAT expectations of signing out 90% of cases within 24 hours of readiness.
- Inform management and the Medical Director promptly about any delays in TAT.
- Report all case errors to the Medical Director and Lab Manager for proper handling.
- Follow the processes for addendum, corrected, and amended reports accurately.
- Review internal communications daily, including communication tools used by Allied Digestive Health.
- Collaborate with peers to review complex, malignant, and dysplasia cases promptly.
- Perform monthly Quality Control (QC) checks on cases in a timely manner.
- Clearly communicate all requests for stains, consults, or case updates with laboratory staff.
Essential Skills:
- Utilize sound judgment in decision-making and proficiency in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Have a solid understanding of control material and validation principles.
- Demonstrate the ability to utilize laboratory computer functions and pathology software effectively.
Education and Experience Required:
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
- 5-year pathology residency; 1-2 years of optional pathology fellowship preferred.
- Valid state medical license.
- Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology.
- Formal training in Anatomic Pathology as dictated by the American Board of Pathology.
Certificates & Licenses: Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology from the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or equivalent qualifications.
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
